What are our questions?

As artists, as arts organizations, as the arts sector, what are our questions about how a rapidly changing world will affect us? It's clear to me that we don't have answers, but shouldn't we at least be making sure that our questions are out there, ready to be vigorously explored? For instance,
1. How will changing demographics and a majority minority society influence us? Specifically, what's our plan to appeal to the increasing cultural power of Asian, African, Latin economies?
2. How will the changing climate influence where and when we make and present art? (hello, summer festivals in the southern US, hello, coastal communities during hurricane season...)
3. How will the increasing disparity between wealth and poverty influence our actions?
4. What about the increasing divide between urban and rural, with gentrification pushing artists ever further from the urban core in many cities?
5. Are we preparing for automation to change the employment landscape, especially for people who will loose their jobs to machines? Also, what will these people do with their available time? How will these people find meaning, if not from work?
6. How are we responding to our education options moving online and becoming increasing dynamic and global, especially as the tuition for traditional higher education continues to rise? And is there something that we can incorporate from the model of the flipped classroom?
7. What about the rise of Amazon and multi-sided platforms?
8. Are we taking advantage of crowdsourcing opportunities and the sharing economy?
9. How do we recalibrate for society's decreased attention span and divided attention thanks to smart devices, wearable tech, virtually-enhanced reality?
10. America is aging and its behaviors are shifting (also observable in TV sports viewership). Are we preparing for the increasing need to provide activities and services for older Americans?
11. What about providing the mirror to hold up to power, providing a venue for nonpartisan truth-telling, connection, and empathy?
It's a shame that The Arts as an industry doesn't have the capacity to invest in research and development. The end of Createquity, due to lack of available funding after a successful ten-year run, is a stark example of the lack of ability to focus attention on the big and important questions. Not even figuring out the answers, mind you. I'll be happy with more questions. It's a start.
