Choreographer in residence

"The Metropolitan Museum of Art has long been a repository of dance-related artworks, but next season for the first time it will invite a choreographer to be its artist in residence: Andrea Miller, the founder and artistic director of Gallim Dance. Ms. Miller will create a number of works at the museum, including 'Stone Skipping,' a site-specific dance that will be performed at the Temple of Dendur in October, the museum said Tuesday when it announced the 2017-18 season of MetLiveArts, its performance series." Taking a cue from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, when will we see a choreographer as artist in residence at a major classical music training institution? There is such a strong inherent connection between music and movement, and just think of the exciting possibilities for enlarging and enhancing the artistic experience. Even if not directly through concert collaborations, I'd love to see the influence of an experienced choreographer on the traditional--often rigid--ways that classical musicians frame their performances and present themselves to audiences. Let's not allow the earnest teachings of early childhood music educators be the final word on how classical musicians command the stage! After all, musicians are essentially upholding an oral tradition in an increasingly picture-based world.
